After 18 months of touring the world extensively, Bear In Heaven entrenched themselves in their practice room & spent most of 2011 writing & recording their third LP I LOVE YOU, IT'S COOL. It marked the first time the band has worked in the studio with an outside producer, namely David Wrench (Caribou / Bat For Lashes). You can read more about the making of the record viaStereogum's Progress Report and Spin Magazine's Studio Feature.
I LOVE YOU, IT'S COOL is also the first record the band will release on Dead Oceans, who have partnered with Hometapes for this release.
Phil Waldorf from Dead Oceans says the deal is the best of both worlds for the band.
"Bear in Heaven and Hometapes had some ambitions that, in the end, they were afraid they might not meet, with their resources," Waldorf explains. "We've been believers in both the band and Hometapes for a long time; we probably would have sought them out even if we hadn't already known them. Now we get to fast-forward."
Sara Padgett Heathcott says the agreement is a new way of thinking for labels to work together.
"We knew we could really multiply our strengths if we worked with Dead Oceans," Heathcott says. "So we went to them with an unprecedented request. It was all in service of, really, a vision. We want to mix up the idea of what it means to run a label these days."
